Habits and Wisdom from a Woman Over 50

Have you ever considered the wisdom that middle-aged women hold? The depth and breadth of perspectives, life experiences, powerful insights and pure knowledge they have accumulated over the years.

I was browsing Quora and came across the question – What Habits Will Benefit You for a Lifetime? and I felt compelled to answer.

So here is my list of habits that can help you live a happier, more fulfilled and joyful life.

  1. Listen more than you talk. You will learn, and it shows respect for others.

  2. Be kind. You have no idea what is going on in other people’s lives.

  3. Travel. There is more to the world when you leave your zone of comfort.

  4. Get enough sleep. It helps with mood, mental acuity, memory and energy levels.

  5. Forgive. People are generally always trying to do their best.

  6. Say you’re sorry. It shows respect for others and yourself.

  7. Be brave and have faith in yourself.

  8. Spend time in nature. It is healing, and it supports creativity.

  9. Talk nicely to yourself. There’s nothing you will hear more than the voice in your head.

  10. Recycle and reuse. We have too much waste already.

  11. Take care of your body. You only have one.

  12. Respect your elders. They deserve it.

  13. Use your common sense. If something doesn’t seem right, it likely isn’t.

  14. Share with others. There is enough to enjoy for everyone.

  15. Be patient. Not everyone moves or thinks as quickly as you.

  16. Tell the truth. It may be challenging, but it’s the right thing to do.

  17. Work hard.

  18. Learn from your mistakes. Find the lesson.

  19. Nurture relationships. They are more important than material things.

  20. Move your body. Physical activity will improve your state of mind and overall health.

  21. Embrace change. It adds spice to life.

  22. Be grateful. More good will come.

  23. Listen to your gut. It’s typically correct.

  24. Give love whenever you can.

  25. Smile at people. It makes a difference.

I have made personal growth a priority for myself for many years. But never has it been more important to me than now. I’m middle age, with children blossoming into outstanding young people. I want to be the best version of myself for all those around me.

I hope these principles resonate with you. And perhaps bring focus to areas of your life that require more time and attention. Let us all strive to be the best mothers, wives, friends, sisters, employees, aunts, daughters, and teammates.
