Hair loss, unless it’s under your arms or on your legs, really sucks!! We seem to lose hair where we should have it and grow hair where we don’t. Yes, that’s me plucking a long, black hair out of my chin.
Castor oil can help to re-grow hair that may be thinning on your eyebrows. I’ve also heard it can help eyelashes to grow.
Castor oil is a pale-yellow oil derived from the beans of the castor tree, which grows natively in the Mediterranean, Eastern Africa, and India. It has been used for many centuries and has been taken as a laxative to induce labour, moisturize skin, heal infections and treat scalp conditions like dandruff.
It has recently been discovered that castor oil can aid hair growth due to the chemical compound ricinoleic acid, which makes up about 90% of its composition. It nourishes the hair and surrounding skin and brings blood circulation to the area. This positive effect can help to grow the hair and nourish the hair that already exists.
All you have to do is apply the oil using an eyebrow “spoolie” (the disposable applicators you get for mascara in stores like Sephora) that is new or clean. Dip the spoolie in the oil and apply it to your brows. Brush the oil through a few times. You can even massage the oil into the brow if you want. Be careful not to apply too much; otherwise, it could drip into your eye.
Doing this at night before bed is best so the oil can sink into your skin. Choose a good quality (pure) castor oil that doesn’t have additives. Organic would be ideal.
And before you apply it to your eyebrows, test a little bit on a skin patch to ensure you don’t have an unknown allergy.
While no scientific studies prove castor oil works to grow hair, there are many stories of this working for women in menopause.
